Amanda Haddaway: Building Legacy Through HR, Writing, and Passion

Oct 22, 2025 | Leadership, Performance Management

I met Amanda Haddaway, CEO of HR Answerbox, almost a decade ago when she attended a Society of Human Resources Professionals program where I presented. Amanda has that lovely presence that makes you know she is listening and remembering everything you say.

In her role at HR Answerbox, Amanda matches the needs of employers, at no cost to them, to her team of over 260 consultants. I am fortunate to be one of the 260 and I like to think I am her favorite, but that may not be entirely true. Employers contact HR Answerbox when they need help regarding employee relations, payroll, compliance, or benefits.

What I just found out recently is that Amanda has a passion for writing that she has pursued alongside her business career. To date, Amanda has published two nonfiction guides: Destination: Real World Success After Graduation and Interviewer Success, as well as two whimsical, beautifully illustrated children’s books, affectionately known as the Pie Spy series. Amanda’s children’s books spring from her playful imagination and are inspired by her grandmother’s life as a baker. These books are already delighting young readers and their families and include recipes! Yum!

What strikes me most about Amanda is how she approaches her work, with generosity and joy. She volunteers her time to read at Title 1 schools, shares her knowledge freely with clients and colleagues, and still finds the energy to pursue creative projects that inspire others. Amanda is proof that when you follow your passion, you don’t just build a career, you build a life of impact.

When I conduct programs on Building Your Legacy, I emphasize that life has many seasons and legacies can be vast. I will never forget my colleague Susan Middletown, who created a huge notebook to ensure my success when she left a position that I inherited. Throughout my career there have been many others who have inspired me through their messages and encouragement.

Leaving a legacy can take many forms; what is your legacy?
