Happy New Year! I’m skipping resolutions this year, and not because I’m feeling rebellious. It’s because I already made a meaningful shift back in October; I started a strength-training routine. And to my own surprise, it’s working. Or more accurately… I’m working.
For years, I’ve been a cardio gal. Walking and talking my way through four miles almost every day. I loved the conversations with my walking buddy. I loved checking it off my list. I loved the endorphins and the ritual of it all.
But here’s the truth I didn’t want to admit: I wasn’t getting more fit.
The routine felt good, but nothing was actually improving.
After reading and listening to books on wellness and longevity, I finally absorbed the message I had been politely ignoring. If I want to be stronger and healthier for the long haul, I need to incorporate strength training into my life. Not “someday,” but now.
The challenge was how.
I tried gyms… and the “drop in anytime” schedule turned into “drop in never.” Flexibility, while lovely in theory, didn’t help me show up for myself. Then something shifted. A member of our blog community sent me this thoughtful article about productivity rhythms and honoring how we’re naturally wired.
It couldn’t have arrived at a better moment.
I realized that to build a new habit, I had to stop fighting my rhythms and start working with them. I found a structure that finally works for me — one that supports strength, accountability, and consistency.
And that’s what I want to explore with you this month.
All January long, in between sharing important insights about facilitation, I’ll also be sharing ideas for discovering your own rhythm. The one that helps you feel strong, focused, and fully you.
Because sometimes “Bah humbug to routines!” is actually the first step to finding the routine that truly works.
Here’s to a year of strength, clarity, and rhythms that make life better.
