Is Goal Setting Part of Your Culture?

Jan 2, 2024 | Leadership, Performance Management

Bah humbug! Many of us seem like naysayers when we think about goals. Maybe you have resisted setting goals if you think of goal setting only as it pertains to your work or your finances.

I will be writing a January series on goal setting, and I hope to encourage you to think about goals in every aspect of your life. For instance, think about the following goals, many of which will be interwoven:

  • Health goals
  • Fitness goals
  • Social goals
  • Relationship goals
  • Financial goals
  • Career goals

Sometimes one goal merges into another, and it’s wonderful when that occurs! I achieve many of my social goals alongside my health goals since I make walking or going to Zumba with friends a priority. Check off two!

Likewise, financial goals often link to career goals. A coaching client of mine parlayed her hobby of hair and makeup design into a part-time business. She now does hair and makeup for weddings and she uses this additional income to pay off her student loans.

For the month of January, I will be writing about goals and goal setting. Are you a person who sets goals? Have you made goal setting an integral part of both your personal life and your professional culture? Do you write the goals down? Do you talk about them? And to what degree do you achieve them? If you don’t set goals, please tell me more about that.
