Leadership: Should We Stop Observing Black History Month?

Jan 30, 2024 | Diversity and Inclusion, Leadership

Last year as a result of a blog I wrote about Black History Month, a reader suggested I stop promoting the observance. I was shocked, and then he provided the video linked below with Mike Wallace and Morgan Freeman from 2005. I found the interview interesting and thought-provoking.

I wonder now, with all that has occurred in the past 19 years, what Morgan Freeman would say? His point about Black history being relegated to one month would likely still hold true.

How do you feel about this topic? Are there practices at your workplace that you find “ridiculous” as Morgan Freeman described Black History Month?
